The MYP is designed to empower students in developing their personal understanding, sense of self, and responsibility within their community. Its curriculum framework provides a broad and balanced education, catering to the unique learning needs of early adolescents.
MYP teachers structure the curriculum with a focus on:
Teaching and Learning in Context
Students learn best when their experiences are meaningful and connected to their lives and the world around them. Through global contexts, MYP students explore human identity, global challenges, and international-mindedness, fostering a deeper understanding of their role in a complex, interconnected world.
Approaches to Teaching and Learning
Our Velammal Global School emphasizes a holistic approach to education through IB Approaches to Teaching (ATT) and Approaches to Learning (ATL). These frameworks equip students with essential skills and strategies for lifelong learning while fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and self-management.
At Velammal global school we ensure that learning is connected to real-world situations, making it meaningful and relevant for students. By applying knowledge to local and global contexts, students develop a deeper understanding of how concepts influence real-life challenges.

Conceptual Understanding
Concepts serve as overarching ideas that are relevant both within individual disciplines and across subject areas. MYP students use concepts as a lens for inquiry, allowing them to explore issues of personal, local, and global significance while developing a holistic approach to knowledge.
The MYP curriculum framework encompasses eight subject groups, ensuring a broad and balanced education tailored to the needs of early adolescents.

Personal Project
Through Personal Projects, students take on the responsibility of completing a substantial piece of work over an extended period, fostering independence and perseverance. These projects encourage students to reflect on their learning, with the final outcomes providing enriching and meaningful learning experiences. The MYP journey culminates in Year 5 (Grade 10) with the Personal Project, where students showcase their work through an exhibition.
Service as action
At VGS, students are encouraged to embrace social responsibility by integrating core values into their learning journey. This approach nurtures compassionate and caring individuals who actively contribute to creating a more peaceful and inclusive world.
From MYP 1 onwards, students engage in service-based activities, applying their classroom learning to real-world contexts. Through individual and group initiatives, they make meaningful contributions to society, creating a positive impact on both communities and the environment.
